Blended
Blended Scotch is a mix of malt and grain whiskies. The process was originally conceived in the 1820's as a way of making the harsh, fiery whiskies of the day more palatable. Today, any number from around 12 to 40 different malts and typically two or three different grain whiskies go into Scottish blends, and although the percentage is decreasing, around 95% of the Scotch whisky made still goes into blends.
