Drambuie, The Jacobite Collection

The ultimate celebration of Drambuie's historic and royal legacy, The Jacobite Collection - The Spirit of the '45 is the latest, rarest and most valuable addition to the award winning Drambuie range.
Launching in World of Whiskies stores in February, The Jacobite Collection is regarded by Drambuie to be the finest product it has ever created and a gift ‘truly fit for a Prince'. Each individual element of the luxurious presentation has been carefully considered to capture The Spirit of ‘45, in liquid, glass and paper.
From the stunning hand-blown crystal decanter, which holds the rare blend of precious whiskies, infused with Drambuie's secret recipe of herbs and spices, every detail of the design has been created to capture the craft and heritage at the heart of Drambuie.
The solid wood presentation box contains a hand-etched crystal replica of the famous Spottiswoode ‘Amen' glass, with a second large crystal stopper for the decanter. A letter-pressed hand-bound 32-page leather booklet, drafted by highly regarded whisky writer, Ian Buxton, tells the historic story of the Jacobite rebellion, and antique Jacobite glass collection.
An original production, the tear drop lead crystal decanter takes inspiration from a mid-18th century design, but with a modern simplicity that makes it very much a product for 2012. It is delicately engraved with the crown motif, whilst the letter 'A' for 'Amen' is carried through the enitre design concept, also appearing on the crystal stopper.
Antique-engraved Spottiswoode ‘Amen' glasses are one of the most treasured and coveted collectors' items from the era of the Jacobite uprisings. In 1745, owning an ‘Amen' glass was an overt expression of sympathy for the Jacobite cause and considered dangerous act of treason. The glasses were only brought out in the safety of friends to toast ‘the King across the Water'.
The Jacobite Collection's Spottiswoode ‘Amen' glass is a slightly smaller replica of the original. Made of fine lead crystal, the trumpet bowl and spiral air-twist stem are historically accurate, carefully reproduced by a team of craftsmen at Glencairn Crystal in Scotland. Each glass will be slightly different and unique in its own right.
The Spirit of the ‘45 is one of a kind that will never be precisely recreated again. Chosen by Drambuie's Master Blender, Derek McInally the unique blend of highly-limited whiskies are infused with Drambuie's famed secret recipe, long steeped in oak aged, Speyside whisky.
The rich and deep colour of The Drambuie Spirit of '45 reflects the age statement of its rare blend of Single Malts. With a nose of vanilla, green apples and cut grass, blended with Drambuie's famous elixir adds a sweet honey and herbal notes with suggestions of toffee, liquorice, fennel and cardamom.
Ian Buxton describes the flavour as a light citrus appearing on the tongue, before developing a delicious vanilla, wrapped in a coconut cloak. The result is complex, sophisticated and multi-layered, before a light oaky finish with a gentle herbal glow.
A maximum of just 150 bottles of The Jacobite Collection will be released, retailing for £3,250 per bottle.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich vanilla with layers of green apples, freshly cut grass and green tomatoes. Subtle whiffs of dried fruit and spices are evident. Sweet honey and herbal notes are apparent, alongside mint. Suggestions of toffee and warm banana emerge and the spice notes separate to offer liquorice, fennel and cardamom.
Flavour: Light citrus appears on the tongue followed by warm honey notes and a delicious vanilla flavour wrapped in a coconut cloak. The liquid is mouth-coating, but not cloying and very warming. This is complex, multi-layered and sophisticated, giving up its secrets slowly.
Finish: A light oaky flavour with a gentle herbal glow. Whisky flavours linger delightfully in the throat, delivering a deliciously extended finish which continues to evolve and reveal slowly fading waves of flavour.
